National Safety Month is Here

Written by Katie Breeden | Jun 4, 2018

June signals the beginning of summer: warm weather, barbecues and kids out of school. June is also National Safety Month, according to the National Safety Council (NSC). It’s a great time to recommit to safety efforts inside and out of the workplace. Envirosight is taking part in the month-long initiative by highlighting various best practices for professionals in the sewer industry and providing valuable safety-related resources.

The official NSC theme for the month is #No1GetsHurt. It can be easy to run on autopilot, especially when much of our day is made up of routines. While this behavior isn’t necessarily unsafe, complacency and boredom can lead to mistakes that put individuals and teams at risk. Ensuring constant awareness and keeping safety measures top of mind can save lives.

On a daily basis, public works and municipal employees report to the streets to maintain our country’s critical infrastructure. In the course of doing their jobs, they contend with a variety of traffic risks, biohazards, hazards within confined spaces, and the dangers of excavating and trenching. Safety protocols have been established to protect these employees. Read more about wastewater personnel safety here.

Each week focuses on a different safety topic, so get ready for materials on emergency preparedness, wellness, falls and driving to coordinate with each theme. Start the month off right by learning about safe traffic control methods with our Traffic Safety Poster. Request a free copy today.
