The City of Denton, Texas saved over $180,000 when it introduced JetScan to its sewer assessment workflow. A recent presentation about its efforts to meet CMOM goals and enhance operations staff’s participation describes why the City chose to add JetScan to its sewer assessment mix, and the outcomes it reaped from the decision. The presentation also mentions the use of ROVVER to help with the City’s pipeline rehabilitation.

The City of Denton, TX relies on JetScan to

  • Efficiently document the results of cleaning measures.
  • Rapidly identify offsets, collapses, infiltration, cross bores, and any other maintenance issues.
  • Select the right nozzle in order to resolve problems without multiple pass-throughs.
  • Identify sewer lines that don’t require CCTV inspection, thus saving time and resources.

Conventional CCTV inspections cost the city an average of $0.83/ft. JetScan costs them only $0.19/ft. These savings quickly added up to a total of $181,674 for the 283,866 feet of sewer pipeline assessed.

The City of Denton’s application of JetScan shows how municipalities can realize cost savings and efficiency when they take an innovative approach to managing their sewer inspection workflow. Phased Assessment Strategy for Sewers (PASS) offers a blueprint for municipalities that want to pursue a similar strategy. The PASS white paper explains how adding a zoom camera and video nozzle to a sewer assessment workflow can save a municipality time and money when compared to CCTV-only approaches.
